Initial setup for a new Codex desk in beta 88
OffiAI beta 88, released on 5 November 2026, updates how a new Codex desk starts, but this fix is incomplete. On the public roadmap, this change is described as helping a new Codex desk start cleanly without getting stuck during initial setup.
What changed
When you launch an agent session in OffiAI, the app prepares the desk so your brief can be sent. During this preparation, OffiAI runs a status check to verify the desk before sending your brief. A desk could get stuck during that initial status check, leaving the brief unsent. Beta 88 updates the setup step, but the fix is incomplete.
How to use it
To use this update, open OffiAI and start a new Codex desk. Watch your desk in the app while the connection prepares. When setup succeeds, your brief is delivered to the agent so work can begin.
Current limits
This change does not fully work yet. Our hand check of the beta 88 build found that setup can still fail intermittently under Full bypass. In one of two test runs under Full bypass, setup failed and left OffiAI’s status check stuck in the Codex composer with no automatic cleanup. When this happens, clicking Retry setup does nothing across all three input methods, so the brief is never delivered. While a second run under Full bypass succeeded, setup remains unreliable in that mode.
